◆ Today
Juneteenth. A federal holiday, a community day, and a reason to celebrate together.
June 19, 1865 — the day word of emancipation finally reached enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Today is a federal holiday. City of Winter Garden solid waste collection runs on its regular schedule. Tonight, Fridays on the Plaza is open 8 AM–1 PM, and the Father’s Reserve Private Bourbon Tasting is at Maya Winter Garden at 6 PM. The community celebration continues tomorrow: the Hamlin All-American Flag Parade at 9 AM, the Farmers Market, and Sunday is Father’s Day.
